Cygolite Hypershot Review: Is This 350 Lumen Bike Tail Light Worth It?

Cycling on busy streets, especially at night, requires more than just a helmet. A reliable bike tail light is crucial for your safety, ensuring you're visible to motorists and other cyclists. The Cygolite Hypershot – 350 Lumen Bike Tail Light promises to deliver that visibility with its compact design, multiple modes, and user-adjustable flash speeds. But does it live up to the hype? In this comprehensive review, we'll dive into the features, pros, and cons of the Cygolite Hypershot to help you decide if it's the right tail light for your cycling needs.

This tail light is ideal for commuters, recreational riders, and anyone who frequently rides in urban environments or during low-light conditions. Its powerful 350-lumen output ensures you are seen, even during daytime riding. With various modes and a durable design, the Cygolite Hypershot aims to be a reliable companion for any cyclist looking to enhance their safety.

Key Features of the Cygolite Hypershot

The Cygolite Hypershot boasts several features designed to maximize visibility and ease of use:

  • 350 Lumen Output: Provides exceptional brightness for both daytime and nighttime visibility.
  • 7 Night & Daytime Modes: Offers a range of flashing and steady modes to suit different riding conditions and preferences.
  • User Adjustable Flash Speeds: Allows you to customize the flash rate to your liking, enhancing visibility.
  • Compact & Durable Design: Built to withstand daily use and varying weather conditions.
  • IP64 Water Resistant: Protects against splashes and rain, ensuring reliable performance in wet conditions.
  • Secured Hard Mount: Provides a stable and secure attachment to your bike's seatpost or seatstays.
  • USB Rechargeable: Conveniently recharge the light via USB, eliminating the need for batteries.

Pros: Why We Like the Cygolite Hypershot

  • Excellent Brightness: The 350-lumen output is significantly brighter than many other tail lights in its class, ensuring you are highly visible to traffic from a distance. This enhances safety, especially in high-traffic areas.
  • Versatile Mode Selection: The 7 different modes, including both steady and flashing options, cater to various riding conditions and personal preferences. You can easily switch between modes to optimize battery life or maximize visibility depending on the situation.
  • Durable and Water-Resistant Construction: The IP64 rating and robust build quality provide peace of mind, knowing the light can withstand rain, splashes, and everyday wear and tear. This ensures long-lasting performance and reliability.

Cons: What Could Be Better

  • Battery Life Could Be Improved: While USB rechargeable is convenient, the battery life on the highest brightness settings could be better. Frequent charging may be required for longer rides.
  • Mounting System, While Secure, Can Be Fiddly: The hard mount is secure, but some users may find it a bit challenging to install and adjust initially. A quick-release mechanism would further improve usability.

Who Should Buy the Cygolite Hypershot?

The Cygolite Hypershot is an excellent choice for several types of cyclists:

  • Urban Commuters: If you commute by bike in the city, where visibility is paramount, the Hypershot's bright output and multiple modes will help you stay safe and seen amidst busy traffic. The water resistance is also a plus for those unexpected rainy days.
  • Night Riders: Those who frequently ride at night will appreciate the Hypershot's powerful light and customizable flash patterns. Being easily seen greatly reduces the risk of accidents.
  • Recreational Cyclists: Even if you're not a daily commuter, the Hypershot is a valuable addition to your safety gear. Its ease of use and reliable performance make it a great choice for weekend rides or evening excursions.
Compared to alternatives like the Blackburn Dayblazer 1100 or the NiteRider Sentinel 150, the Cygolite Hypershot offers a strong balance of brightness, durability, and affordability. While the Blackburn and NiteRider may offer slightly higher lumen outputs or more advanced features, the Hypershot provides excellent value for its price point.

Conclusion

The Cygolite Hypershot is a fantastic bike tail light that delivers on its promise of enhanced visibility and safety. While the battery life and mounting system have minor drawbacks, the powerful brightness, versatile modes, and durable construction make it a worthwhile investment for any cyclist. Honestly the best combo for backpacking. The stock bags that come with the sawyer are trash but the Cnoc bladder makes it so much easier to fill up in shallow streams. Flow is a bit slow after a few days but just backflush it and you're good.

I've tried everything on a set-in grease stain on my car seat, and Amodex finally did the trick. It’s definitely more expensive than the stuff you get at the grocery store, but it actually works on tough inks. Worth keeping in the laundry room for emergencies.

15 for this price is insane!! They work great for my podcasting setup and I have plenty of extras if one gets gross or rips.

The hardware is solid but the Aqara app needs work. It’s a bit glitchy when trying to set up the "ghost" person filtering. It’s better than PIR sensors for sure, but be prepared to spend an afternoon troubleshooting the settings.
