Introduction: Stepping into the Wi-Fi 7 Era

The MSI Herald-BE WI-FI 7 MAX PCIe network card promises to bring the speed and efficiency of the latest Wi-Fi 7 technology to your desktop PC at a surprisingly affordable price point of $39. This makes it a tempting option for budget-conscious users looking to upgrade their internet connectivity. But is it worth the investment? This review delves into the features, performance, and overall value of the MSI Herald-BE, comparing it to other options on the market to help you decide if it's the right choice for your needs.

Wi-Fi 7 (802.11be) represents a significant leap forward in wireless technology, boasting significantly faster speeds and lower latency compared to its predecessors, Wi-Fi 6 and Wi-Fi 6E. This makes it ideal for gamers, streamers, and anyone who relies on a consistently strong and reliable internet connection for demanding applications. The MSI Herald-BE aims to deliver these benefits at a price that won't break the bank.

Key Features and Specifications

  • Wi-Fi 7 Standard (802.11be): Experience blazing-fast wireless speeds, significantly outpacing previous generations.
  • Bluetooth 5.4: Seamless connectivity for your Bluetooth peripherals.
  • PCIe Interface: Easy installation into your desktop computer's expansion slot.
  • Multi-Link Operation Technology: Improves throughput and stability by intelligently utilizing multiple frequency bands.

Cons: Areas for Improvement

  • Limited Range: While the external antenna improves signal strength, some users have reported limited range compared to high-end router solutions with more powerful antennas. This is a common trade-off with PCIe cards.
  • Potential for Interference: Using the 6 GHz band might suffer from interference in some environments depending on surrounding devices which also use that band. Always check frequency usage before purchase.

I was skeptical about Wi-Fi 7 being worth it this early, but the MSI Herald-BE changed my mind. The stability on the 6GHz band is far superior to my old Wi-Fi 6E card, and the included antenna base is actually weighted so it doesn't tip over. Great value for a next-gen upgrade.

its okay i guess? i dont really see a huge difference from my old wifi 6 card but maybe thats because my internet speed isnt fast enough to begin with. the antenna looks cool tho but the wires are kinda short.

stay away if your on windows 10!! spent 3 hours trying to get the drivers to work and its still dropping connection every 10 minutes. waste of money and msi support was zero help. should of just bought a more expensive brand.

Decent hardware for the price point. The speeds are there if you have a compatible router, but the Bluetooth 5.4 connection has been a bit flakey with my Sony headphones. It's a good entry-level Wi-Fi 7 option but don't expect it to solve all your signal issues if you have thick walls.

Was looking at the Gigabyte version but went with MSI because it was cheaper. No regrets so far. Getting nearly 2Gbps near the router which is nuts for a wireless card. Best budget upgrade I've made this year tbh.

Does what it says on the box. It's a network card, nothing more, nothing less.

Solid card. The drivers were a bit of a pain to find on the website (MSI's site is kind of a mess) but once I got it running it's been rock solid. Much better range than the built-in chip on my motherboard, though the magnetic base could be a little stronger.

Killer speeds for the price! Installed it in 5 mins and my downloads are literally 3x faster than my old wifi 6 card.

I was skeptical because it's so cheap compared to the other wifi 7 cards out there but MSI actually killed it. The range is decent and I'm getting solid pings in Valorant. Only downside was the driver install was a bit finicky on windows 11.

Upgraded my desktop with this Herald-BE card and overall I'm super happy. I have a 2 gig fiber plan and with my old setup I was barely hitting 800mbps, now I'm seeing 1.7-1.8 consistently over wireless. It comes with a nice magnetic antenna which feels way more premium than the price suggests. If u want wifi 7 without spending a fortune this is basically the best option right now tbh.

It's okay I guess. Speed is good but honestly idk if I notice a huge difference from my previous wifi 6e card in day to day stuff. It works fine but the cable for the antenna is kinda short for my desk setup.

Waste of money for me. Constant dropouts and blue screens after installing the drivers. Tried everything but it just wont stay connected for more than an hour. Returning it and getting a TP-Link instead.

For under $50, this is a steal. I was worried about the MSI drivers because they can be hit or miss, but the Herald-BE worked right out of the box on Windows 11. I'm getting near gigabit speeds over wireless now which is wild compared to my old wifi 6 card.

A very cost-effective way to future-proof your desktop. The build quality of the PCIe card is solid and the included antenna has a magnetic base which is a nice touch for positioning. Highly recommended for budget builds.

The speeds are definitely there when it works, but the range isn't quite as good as my old Intel card. I noticed the signal drops off pretty fast if you aren't in the same room as the router. Great price though if you stay close to the hub.

idk if i really needed wifi 7 yet but it was cheap so i figured why not. it works well enough but u need a really high end router to actually see the "wifi 7" benefits. it's basically just a decent wifi 6e card for most people right now.
